The car was parked for us and the hotel has a lovely verandah.It is very convenient for the Alhambra. A 10minute bus service opperates just down from the hotel. This takes you into the centre but it is only a 10min shady walk (uphill it is 20mins)

We had 3 rooms and mine was the best. It was No. 136, if you can, ask the hotel for that room or another one the same as it. Nice bathroom, good size room, comfortable beds, bright and airy with a view of the trees outside. Lovely cool patio area downstairs and the food and drink are not expensive. Breakfast is excellent and the rooftop barbecue restaurant is really good too. The views are amazing!! Wouldn't recommend it for anyone with walking difficulties as it's on a hill. The pool is lovely - not very big but big enough to swim in and cool off. It was end of June/beginning of July when we were there but it wasn't too busy. Enough sunbeds and chairs for anyone who wanted them. Take plenty of suncream - it's HOT!!

Top Tip

Once you've got your bearings try the local bus. It runs every 20 minutes. Go to the Albaycin for shopping and bars. There's a restaurant just down the road called La Mimbra, it looks lovely but most of our party of 6 had fish and it was disappointing. My daughter had steak which she said was really good. We preferred the rooftop barbecue restaurant at the hotel. Good food and not too expensive either. Get the local bus (No. 32) to "El Mirador de San Nicolas". From here you can view the Alhambra and Generalife. Stunning!! 5 days wasn't enough, I will definitely go back - possibly at a cooler time of year and see the Alhambra properly. We went on a night visit and the lighting is quite poor outside. I think it would be better by day, also the gardens looked stunning but you need a day visit to see them properly.

Our stay at the Alixares was very pleasant and good value for money. The triple rooms were spacious and clean, with TV and mini bar. The outdoor pool was also very clean and welcome treat after a heavy day of walking around in the sun. The walk from the hotel to the town centre was scenic and took around 15-20min at a leisurely pace. The only negative point was the angry little man we encountered at the end of our stay, who refused to store our bags in the baggage room for more than 3 hrs as our 'contract with the hotel was over'. We had to check out at 12pm but had reservations for the Alhambra in the afternoon, and wheeling around our bags was not an option. The desk clerk was rude and very unhelpful and basically stated that it wasn't his problem. His main problem about storing our baggage (3 small carry on suitcases and 2 overnight bags) was that there was not going to be enough room in the storage room which was the size of a single room and was completely empty! With the exception of this desk clerk all our encounters with the hotel staff were pleasant and helpful.

Top Tip

There is a regular bus service within 300 meters of the hotel that took you to the centre of town for 1.50 Euros. Good seafood tapas Los Diamantes, the staff are very helpful if you want suggestions.

The perfect place to explore sites of Granada. Easy to find just follow signs to Alhambra. Facilities and food excellent. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Once you get there you don'nt need your car. Everything easily accessible.

Top Tip

Essential to prebook the Alhambra several days before otherwise you won'nt get in. Well worth investing in Granada bus tour. Can get on and off and see the main sites. Remember some sites in town closed during siesta.

Car Parking is very expensive at 13 Euros per day. Just seems a ploy to charge extra per each night. Hotel Restaurant very good value and excellent food.

Obvious place to visit ios Alhambra Palace but best to book in advance in busy periods

Have been visiting this hotel over many years and if there have been any problems, these are always quickly resolved by the helpful staff.

Chinese Restaurants in the centre of Granada are excellent
